Gynecomastia is the<\/span> enlargement of breast tissue in men<\/span>, due to an<\/span> imbalance of <\/span>testosterone and estrogen hormones<\/span>. If you have low testosterone, or higher that normal levels <\/span>of estrogen, your breasts may enlarge. The condition may a<\/span>ff<\/span>ect only one or both breasts, <\/span>sometimes in uneven sizes.<\/span><\/p>

Even though it can sometimes go away naturally, over<\/span> a large period of time<\/span>, the majority <\/span>of men su<\/span>ff<\/span>ering from gynecomastia opt to have a breast reduction surgery, as it is<\/span> a major <\/span>source of embarrassment and shame<\/span>. In fact, it can too often<\/span> lead to severe anxiety and <\/span>depression<\/span>, but most importantly it highly<\/span> increases the chance of breast cancer<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

It can also appear in<\/span> children during puberty, and in adults after some conditions <\/span>including:<\/span><\/p>

– weight gain
– kidney failure
– hyperthyroidism
– liver disease
– malnutrition<\/span><\/p>

In some cases, it is also caused<\/span> due to some medications<\/span>, mostly treating depression, <\/span>heart failure, an enlarged prostate, blood pressure, ulcers, ADHD, but also drugs (legal and illegal), <\/span>like heroin, amphetamine and anabolic steroids.<\/span><\/p>

Recovery from gynecomastia surgery is<\/span> relatively short<\/span> and depends on the type of <\/span>procedure. For liposuction, the patient can return home the same day, and will need <\/span>approximately<\/span> one week before returning to work<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>


If a mastectomy or skin excision is performed, the patient will need to<\/span> stay overnight<\/span> at <\/span>the clinic, and should<\/span> refrain from work for approximately 10 days<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

In all cases, you should not exercise for<\/span> 2 to 4 weeks post-op<\/span>, and also<\/span> not smoke, <\/span>drink excessively, or lift heavy objects<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

There will be some<\/span> numbness and mild pain in the first few days<\/span>, but you will be <\/span>prescribed with medication to alleviate the pain, which will<\/span> subside relatively quickly.<\/span> The area <\/span>will be swollen, and it will take several weeks for it to completely go away, and<\/span> a specialized <\/span>garment<\/span> will be provided in order to facilitate this.<\/span><\/p>
